How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a variety of benefits for homeowners in Natick, one being improved energy efficiency. No matter if you’re looking online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re wanting better efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a larger leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to determine if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important aspects of your windows, and if that is altered it can affect your heating and cooling expenses.
